Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).
Objective: The Certified News Reporter course is designed to train individuals in the core competencies of professional news reporting across print, broadcast, and digital media platforms. The course covers essential journalism skills including news gathering, writing, interviewing, source verification, and deadline-based reporting. Participants will learn how to identify newsworthy events, structure news stories (5Ws & H), write compelling leads, and ensure accuracy, fairness, and clarity.
Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:
Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.
Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.
Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.
Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.
Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.
Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.
Assessment Modules:
Module 1: Introduction to News Reporting: Role and responsibilities of a news reporter, Understanding the structure of newsrooms and editorial flow, Types of news (hard news, soft news, breaking news, features), News values: timeliness, proximity, impact, conflict, human interest, Evolution of journalism and modern reporting trends, Ethics, accuracy, and objectivity in reporting.
Module 2: News Gathering Techniques: Identifying newsworthy events and developing story ideas, Building and maintaining sources across beats, Conducting effective interviews and note-taking techniques, Attending press conferences, public meetings, and events, Using observation and verification for field reporting, Fact-checking and avoiding misinformation.
Module 3: Writing and Structuring News Reports: Inverted pyramid style and news story structure, Writing compelling leads and headlines, Developing a clear, concise, and balanced narrative, Using quotes, attribution, and background context, Tailoring reports for different platforms (print, digital, broadcast), Editing for clarity, grammar, and tone.
Module 4: Reporting on Different Beats: Understanding and covering various beats (politics, crime, education, health, environment), Special considerations for sensitive topics and communities, Coordinating with editors and beat teams, Maintaining neutrality and avoiding bias, Using official data and documents in beat reporting, Building expertise and contacts within a beat.
Module 5: Digital Reporting Tools and Multimedia Integration: Using smartphones and digital tools for mobile journalism (MoJo), Live reporting, tweeting, and real-time updates, Creating multimedia packages (text, photo, audio, video), Using CMS platforms to publish and update news, SEO basics and optimizing headlines for web visibility, Data journalism basics for reporters.
Module 6: Career Building and Professional Practices: Building a professional news portfolio and clips, Freelance reporting vs staff positions, Pitching stories to editors and publications, Networking with journalists, sources, and press bodies, Understanding legal considerations (defamation, copyright, privacy), Continuous learning and upskilling through workshops and fellowships.
GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:
- Duration- 60 minutes.
- Number of Questions- 30.
- Number of Questions from each module: 5.
- Language: English.
- Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
- Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
- There is no negative marking in any module.
