Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/JPM/CMP/V1

Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Media Photographer course is designed to develop technical proficiency and creative vision in capturing professional-quality photographs for media, advertising, journalism, fashion, events, and digital platforms. The course covers core photography concepts such as exposure, composition, lighting, depth of field, and color theory, along with advanced camera operations and lens usage. Learners will gain hands-on experience in studio and outdoor environments using DSLR/Mirrorless cameras, lighting equipment, and editing software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Media Photography: Understanding the role of photography in media and communication, Types of media photography (editorial, commercial, photojournalism, fashion, advertising), Evolution of photography and its digital transformation, Basics of visual storytelling and framing for narratives, Ethical and legal considerations in media photography, Overview of career paths and industry opportunities.

Module 2: Camera Operations and Exposure Control: Understanding types of cameras and lenses used in media photography, Mastering the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), White balance and metering modes for accurate color and lighting, Focus modes, depth of field, and image sharpness techniques, Working with DSLR, mirrorless, and professional video-photo hybrids, RAW vs JPEG: formats, workflows, and quality management.

Module 3: Lighting Techniques and Composition: Natural vs artificial lighting in media shoots, Using reflectors, diffusers, and modifiers, Studio lighting setups for portrait and product photography, Rule of thirds, symmetry, and leading lines in media composition, Capturing motion, emotion, and expression effectively, Balancing subject, background, and negative space.

Module 4: Media-Specific Photography Genres: Portrait and fashion photography for magazines and digital media, Event and documentary photography for news and reportage, Product and commercial photography for advertising, Environmental and lifestyle photography for campaigns, Editorial storytelling and feature assignments, Social media content creation and visual branding photography.

Module 5: Post-Processing and Digital Workflow: Editing photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Color correction, retouching, and compositing techniques, Batch editing and applying presets for consistent results, File organization, backup, and metadata tagging, Preparing images for print, web, and social media platforms, Exporting in required formats for publications and agencies.

Module 6: Portfolio Building and Client Work: Planning and executing real-world media photography projects, Working with briefs, mood boards, and shot lists, Client communication, contracts, and release forms, Handling feedback, revisions, and deadlines professionally, Creating a strong and diverse photography portfolio, Showcasing and promoting your work for freelance or studio careers.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
