Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/AT/CGCT/V1

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to understand and execute the garment construction process from start to finish. Participants will learn the techniques involved in cutting, stitching, assembling, and finishing garments while ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy. The curriculum covers pattern making, fabric selection, seam construction, fitting adjustments, and the use of various sewing and finishing equipment. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Garment Construction: Overview of Garment Construction Process, Role and Responsibilities of a Garment Construction Technician, Understanding the Stages of Garment Manufacturing (Pattern Making, Cutting, Sewing, Finishing), Tools and Equipment Used in Garment Construction, Overview of Apparel Industry Standards and Practices, Key Terminologies in Garment Construction (Seams, Hems, Topstitching).

Module 2: Fabric and Material Selection for Garment Construction: Understanding Different Fabric Types and Their Applications in Garment Construction, How Fabric Properties Impact Construction (Drape, Stretch, Strength), Fabric Pre-treatment and Preparation (Shrinking, Pre-washing), Sourcing and Sizing Materials for Garment Production, Managing Fabric Defects and Waste During Construction, Selecting and Using Interfacing, Lining, and Other Components.

Module 3: Pattern Making and Layout Techniques: Introduction to Pattern Making for Garment Construction, Types of Patterns (Basic, Block, Custom, Draped Patterns), Preparing and Adjusting Patterns for Different Sizes, Importance of Pattern Grading and Fit, Creating and Cutting Pattern Pieces Accurately, Organizing the Layout for Efficient Fabric Utilization.

Module 4: Sewing Techniques and Assembly: Understanding Different Stitch Types and Their Uses (Straight Stitch, Zigzag, Overlock, etc.), Proper Sewing Machine Setup for Garment Construction, Sewing Seams, Hems, and Finishes, Techniques for Attaching Sleeves, Zippers, and Other Garment Components, Handling and Sewing Difficult or Specialized Fabrics, Ensuring Proper Fit and Seam Allowances During Assembly.

Module 5: Garment Fitting and Adjustments: Conducting Garment Fitting and Identifying Issues, Making Adjustments for Fit (Waist, Chest, Hips, Sleeves, etc.), Correcting Pattern Issues Based on Fit Feedback, Techniques for Ensuring Comfort and Style (Ease, Dart Placement), Using the Muslin Test for Fitting Trials, Troubleshooting Common Fitting Problems (Wrinkles, Gaping, Tightness).

Module 6: Finalizing Garment Construction and Quality Control: Finishing Techniques for Garment Construction (Pressing, Trimming, Tacking), Preparing Garments for Final Inspection, Conducting Quality Control Checks on Finished Garments (Seam Strength, Fabric Durability, Stitch Quality), Packaging and Presentation for Delivery, Addressing Common Defects and Ensuring Consistency in Construction, Implementing Quality Assurance Measures for Garment Durability.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
