Eligibility: 10th (High School) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: This course is designed to provide in-depth training in the art and science of pattern making for the apparel industry. Participants will learn to create accurate and efficient patterns that serve as the foundation for garment construction. The curriculum covers both traditional manual and modern computer-aided pattern-making techniques (CAD). Key topics include pattern drafting, grading, fitting, fabric utilization, and marker making.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Module 1: Introduction to Pattern Making: Overview of Pattern Making in the Apparel Industry, Role and Responsibilities of a Pattern Maker, Types of Patterns (Block, Basic, Sloper, Custom), Understanding the Relationship Between Design and Pattern, Key Pattern Making Terminologies (Seams, Darts, Notches, Grainline), Tools and Equipment Used in Pattern Making.

Module 2: Fabric and Material Knowledge for Pattern Making: Understanding Fabric Properties and Their Impact on Pattern Design (Stretch, Drape, Shrinkage), Selecting the Right Fabric for Different Garment Types, Importance of Grainline and Pattern Placement, Preparing Fabric for Pattern Making (Pre-washing, Ironing, Measuring), Handling Fabric Defects and Flaws, Sourcing and Managing Materials for Pattern Production.

Module 3: Pattern Drafting Techniques: Introduction to Manual and Computer-Aided Pattern Drafting, Drafting Basic Patterns (Bodice, Skirt, Sleeve, Pant), Creating and Modifying Patterns for Different Styles, Adjusting for Fit and Comfort in Pattern Drafting, Converting Slopers into Fashion Designs, Marking Pattern Pieces for Cutting and Sewing.

Module 4: Pattern Grading and Size Variations: Introduction to Pattern Grading and Its Importance in Apparel Production, Techniques for Grading Patterns for Different Sizes, Understanding Size Charts and Measuring Systems, Adjusting Proportions and Fit Across Sizes, Creating Grade Rules for Different Garment Types, Tools and Software for Grading Patterns.

Module 5: Pattern Fitting and Adjustments: Conducting Garment Fitting Trials and Adjusting Patterns for Fit, Identifying Fit Issues (Wrinkles, Tightness, Gaping), Techniques for Modifying Patterns Based on Fitting Feedback, Altering Patterns for Body Types and Styles, Using Muslin or Prototype Garments for Fit Testing, Documenting and Refining Fit Adjustments for Production.

Module 6: Finalizing Patterns for Production: Creating Final Patterns for Production and Sample Development, Adding Markings and Notations for Sewing Instructions, Creating and Managing Pattern Bundles for Garment Manufacturing, Quality Control in Pattern Making (Accuracy, Consistency), Integrating Patterns with Garment Production and Manufacturing Systems, Storing and Managing Patterns for Future Use or Adjustments.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
