Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Excavation Safety Supervisor course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills required to manage and supervise safe excavation activities in construction and industrial environments. The course covers critical areas such as soil classification, trenching and shoring systems, underground utility identification, protective system design, and emergency response planning. Emphasis is placed on recognizing excavation hazards like cave-ins, water accumulation, and hazardous atmospheres, and implementing preventive measures. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Excavation Safety and Supervisor Duties: Overview of excavation and trenching hazards, Regulatory standards and legal requirements (OSHA, IS codes), Roles and responsibilities of the excavation safety supervisor, Competent person requirements and qualifications, Types of excavation work and associated risks, Safety culture and leadership in excavation projects.

Module 2: Soil Mechanics and Hazard Recognition: Soil classification and testing methods (visual/manual, pocket penetrometer), Types of soil and their stability characteristics, Identifying cave-in and collapse risks, Surface and subsurface hazard identification, Weather and water-related effects on soil conditions, Use of soil analysis in planning safe excavation.

Module 3: Protective Systems and Safety Measures: Overview of protective systems (sloping, shoring, shielding), Selection and design of protective systems, Benching and trench box usage guidelines, Installation and removal procedures for safety systems, Protective system inspections and maintenance, Manufacturer specifications and compliance verification.

Module 4: Access, Egress, and Site Control: Requirements for safe entry and exit in excavations, Placement and spacing of ladders and ramps, Hazard zone demarcation and barricading, Traffic and mobile equipment control near excavation sites, Pedestrian safety and exclusion zones, Communication systems and signage at work sites.

Module 5: Utility Detection, Emergency Preparedness, and Rescue: Locating underground utilities before excavation (One Call systems, GPR), Procedures for working around buried services (gas, electric, sewer), Emergency response planning and rescue operations, First aid and confined space awareness in excavation, Communication with utility providers and emergency services, Incident response drills and scenario planning.

Module 6: Inspection, Documentation, and Compliance: Daily inspection requirements for excavations and protective systems, Inspection checklists and recordkeeping, Documentation of hazards, controls, and corrective actions, Regulatory compliance audits and internal reviews, Reporting unsafe conditions and near-misses, Post-incident investigation and preventive planning.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
